Listening Room – “The Tokyo Concert”
This live album was Bill Evans' first of many recordings for Fantasy Records during the 1970's. While certainly not nearly as well known as his classic Riverside sessions from the first part of his long career, all of his later records are worth hearing. This 1973 album was recorded at Yubin Chokin Hall in Tokyo and while it features only one Evans original - T.T.T.T. (Twelve Tone Tune Two) - all the selections are well chosen and showcase this great edition of the Bill Evans Trio.

Listening Room – “Jazz in the Space Age”
This 1960 release was George Russell's third as a leader and actually is the result of two different recording sessions (details on the two groups can be found here at the stupendously amazing Jazz Discography Project). Both sessions included Bill Evans and Paul Bley on piano, as well as Milt Hinton on bass and Barry Galbraith on guitar. The music is adventurous and is free jazz at its earliest incarnations. Russell, who would go on to become best known as a jazz theorist, composed all the tracks on this record that would go on to become an important post-bop work.

Listening Room – “Portrait of Cannonball”
This was Cannonball Adderley's first record for Riverside and was the start of a very successful run of albums he would produce for the label. "Portrait of Cannonball" is a prime example of Adderley at his hard bop best and he assembled a great group of like-minded players such as Bill Evans on piano and Blue Mitchell on trumpet. The album only has a couple of of original tunes, but the song choices are excellent, including Blue Funk written by Sam Jones and a classic version of Gigi Gryce's Minority.

Players:
Cannonball Adderley - Alto Sax
Blue Mitchell - Trumpet
Bill Evans - Piano

Bill Evans Trio – “Waltz For Debbie”
Not sure of the exact year, but most likely somewhere between 1962 - 1965, this is piano great Bill Evans joined by Chuck Israels on Bass and Larry Bunker on Drums performing Evan's classic track Waltz For Debby. This group released many great trio records in the 1960's all of which are worth acquiring.
