Listening Room – “The Resurgence of Dexter Gordon”

Dexter Gordon was on parole from Chino State Penitentiary when Cannonball Adderley persuaded him to go into the studio to cut this 1960 album on Jazzland Records. Gordon contributed two tracks to the record, while pianist Dolo Coker penned the remaining four tracks.  This was an important recording for Gordon, who was putting his addiction troubles behind him and would soon record a string of classic albums for Blue Note before moving to Europe in 1962 (where he would live until 1976).
